What Is EXIF Data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata automatically embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It contains a wealth of technical and descriptive information about the image, including the camera model, lens type, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, date and time the photo was taken, and frequently, exact GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude).
Why Clean EXIF Data?
While EXIF data is extremely useful for photographers to organize and analyze their shots, it poses a significant privacy risk when sharing photos online or sending them to strangers. Social media platforms often strip this data automatically, but if you send an original image via email, messaging apps, or upload it to certain websites, the receiver can extract your exact location and device information. This tool allows you to safely strip all embedded EXIF tags before sharing. Everything runs locally in your browser to guarantee complete privacy.
