About PDF Merge and Split
When should I merge PDFs?
Merging is useful when you have a document split across multiple files and need to send or archive it as a single PDF — for example, combining scanned pages, assembling a report from separate chapters, or joining a cover letter and CV into one file.
When should I split a PDF?
Splitting lets you extract specific pages from a larger document — useful for pulling out one chapter from a book, isolating a single form from a multi-page packet, or creating a shorter preview of a long report. The page range input supports any combination of individual pages and ranges.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
There is no hard limit — you can merge as many PDFs as your browser's memory allows. For very large files (hundreds of MB total), performance may slow down, but typical document merges of 10–20 files work instantly.
Can I reorder files before merging?
Yes. Drag the handle (⠿) on any file row to reorder it. The merged PDF will follow the order shown in the list.
How do I specify which pages to extract?
Type a range like '1-3, 5, 8-10' in the Page Range field, or click individual page numbers in the grid on the right. Both methods stay in sync — typing updates the grid, clicking updates the text field.
Does splitting remove pages from the original?
No. Your original file is never modified. The tool creates a new PDF containing only the pages you selected. The original file stays untouched on your device.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. All processing runs in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device.
