About PDF Watermarks
When should I watermark a PDF?
Watermarking is common for documents shared externally as drafts, confidential materials, or branded content. It signals the document's status or ownership at a glance. Common watermark texts include CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY, or a company name.
Does this tool support image watermarks?
No โ this tool adds text watermarks only. Text watermarks are the most common type and render crisply at any size. For image watermarks (e.g. a logo), you would need a desktop PDF editor that supports embedded image overlays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the watermark be permanently embedded in the PDF?
Yes. The watermark is drawn directly onto each page using pdf-lib. It cannot be removed without dedicated PDF editing software.
Can I watermark a multi-page PDF?
Yes. The watermark is applied to every page automatically โ you set it once and it covers the entire document.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. All processing runs in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.
Which font is used for the watermark?
Helvetica, which is a standard embedded font in pdf-lib. It renders consistently across all PDF viewers.
Can I adjust how transparent the watermark appears?
Yes. The Opacity slider controls this โ lower values make the watermark more transparent, higher values make it more visible. 30% is a common starting point for a subtle background watermark.
