Merge PDF Files on Your Phone Without an App

Merging PDFs on a phone means combining two or more PDF files into one document using only the phone's web browser. You don't need a PDF app, an account, or a laptop. This matters when a form asks for "all documents in a single file" and everything you have is sitting in your phone's Downloads folder.

What you need

  • An Android phone or an iPhone with a current browser (Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet, or Firefox).
  • The PDFs saved on the phone, in Files (iPhone) or Downloads/Files (Android). If they're email attachments, save them to the phone first.

Step by step

1. Open the tool

Go to Merge PDF in your mobile browser. The page processes files on the phone itself; nothing is uploaded to a server.

2. Add the files in the order you want

Tap the upload area. Your phone's file picker opens.

Order matters, because the pages are joined in the order the files are listed. Drag-to-reorder works best with a mouse on a computer, so on a phone the reliable approach is to add files in the final order:

  1. Select the first document and confirm.
  2. Tap Add more PDFs and select the second document.
  3. Repeat for each remaining file.

If a file lands in the wrong place, tap Reset and add them again in order. With three or four files it takes seconds.

3. Name the output

Type a file name in Output filename, such as application-documents. A clear name helps when you attach it later.

4. Merge and download

Tap Merge PDFs. When it finishes, the merged PDF downloads.

  • Android: it goes to the Downloads folder. Chrome shows a notification you can tap to open it.
  • iPhone: Safari offers to open or save it. Save to Files so you can attach it from any app.

5. Check it

Open the merged file and scroll through it. Confirm the page count and the order before you send it.

Taking pages out of a PDF on your phone

The same tool can extract pages. Switch to Split, choose one PDF, then type a range such as 1-3, 5 or tap the page thumbnails. Tap Extract Pages to download a new PDF with only those pages. This is useful when a portal wants just the first page of a certificate.

Common problems on mobile

The file picker doesn't show my PDF. On iPhone, tap Browse in the picker and look in Files, iCloud Drive, or On My iPhone. On Android, open the side menu of the picker and choose Downloads or your file manager.

The merged file is too large to upload. Run it through Compress PDF. It re-renders pages as optimized images, which shrinks scans considerably.

My photos aren't PDFs yet. Convert them first with Image to PDF, then merge the result with your other documents.

It's slow with big files. Phones have less memory than laptops. Close other tabs, or merge in smaller groups and then merge those results.

Is it safe to merge private documents this way?

The merging runs in your phone's browser using the pdf-lib library. The PDFs aren't sent to a server, so ID cards, bank statements, and contracts stay on your device. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and image quality doesn't change.
